Audiences will be taken on a literal musical trip through the Abbotsford Convent’s century old, resonant spaces when six works including four world premieres and one Australian premiere, from four of Australia’s finest composers Liza Lim, Thomas Meadowcroft, Cathy Milliken and Damien Ricketson are performed by Speak Percussion and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) this August.
The concert will feature large scale works and smaller, intimate chamber works whilst mobile-massed wind and percussion ensembles will lead listeners pied piper style from the Convent’s North Magdalen Laundry, through to the Packing Room, Industrial School and Rosina Dormitories surrounding St Anne’s Courtyard.

Two new works – by Cathy Milliken and Damien Ricketson, for the full ensemble of twelve percussion players, have been conceived specifically for a spatialised performance in the Convent’s North Magdalen Laundry and set to conjure up incredible sound worlds which will surround the audience. A work by Thomas Meadowcraft which has previously only existed in a recorded multi track version will be performed live for the first time as well as his new work for The ANAM Set commissioning project.
