Before Nightfall #7 Claire Chase

For the seventh instalment of the Before Nightfall series, we’re delighted to be collaborating with renowned flautist and cultural leader Claire Chase.

Before Nightfall #7 Claire Chase

Before Nightfall is a series of new artistic encounters between Speak Percussion and invited guest artists. Each encounter will: 1. Occur across the course of a single day. 2. Culminate in a performance and a recorded release.

Claire Chase, described by The New Yorker as “the young star of the modern flute,” is a soloist, collaborative artist, educator, curator and advocate of new and experimental music. Over the past decade she has given the world premieres of hundreds of new works for the flute in performances on five continents. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2012, and in 2017 was the first flautist in history to be awarded the Avery Fisher Prize. Claire Chase founded the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) in 2001. Under Chase’s leadership from 2001-2016, ICE premiered more than 800 works, spearheaded an artist-driven organisational model that earned the ensemble the Trailblazer Award from the American Music Centre in 2010.
